Manuel “Manny” De La Rosa is a general assignment reporter for KIII-TV in Corpus Christi, Texas. De La Rosa has worked in the Coastal Bend since 2006 and covers the small cities and counties outside of Corpus Christi.  De La Rosa, a native of Los Angeles, has more than 15 years of reporting experience. He has worked as a reporter in the Rio Grande Valley, Victoria, and Waco, TX; Tucson, AZ and Santa Maria, CA. He also worked as an associate producer in the Los Angeles Bureau for Court TV from 1998 until 2000.

De La Rosa has been a member of NAHJ since 1990.  He is a Lifetime Member of the organization. He’s very committed to its goals of getting more Hispanics into decision-making positions, making sure newsrooms are diverse and providing scholarships and educational opportunities for young students. He also is an advocate who is ready to deal with the current state of the industry, which has led to many layoffs and loss of jobs for minority journalists in the business, and be a voice for journalists, so they can get back on their feet and have the proper training in the new multimedia world.

De La Rosa has lots of experience on the national board and national committees for NAHJ. He was elected as Vice President of Broadcast in the summer of 2006 and served a two-year term. Prior to that, he served a year as the Region 5 Director and served on the NAHJ Board from 2000-2002 as Region 8 Director. He also has served on the Awards, Issues, Executive Committees and was one of the committee members for the NAHJ convention in Fort Worth, TX. In addition, he helped start one of the first NAHJ chapters in the Rio Grande Valley.

He also has been a past member of the California Chicano News Media Association (CCNMA) and Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE). He was the Los Angeles Chapter President for CCNMA where he served on the statewide board in 1993.

De La Rosa holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Southern California where he graduated in 1991. He has been married to his wife, Alma, for 13 years. They have two children, Denisse, 18, and Manuel II, 13.
