Workshop: Digital Multi-Media Gathering Tools & Tips

Can I use a $100 camera to produce quality, compelling content? Can I beat the “big boys” to the punch and cover breaking news for my blog? Can I produce a video for YouTube that may generate thousands of page views for my public relations, media, or business campaign?

YES! Join us for a hands-on digital multi-media workshop at OLLU. Co-sponsored by the National Association for Hispanic Journalists, the workshop will reveal many of the “mysteries” including:

â—„ Digital cameras, what to look for

â—„ Equipment basics, both audio and video

â—„ Software basics for editing, photo slides, and more

â—„ Production 101: camera framing, storytelling and the importance of “b-roll” (code for “the video” that makes your story interesting and appealing)

â—„ Publishing, promoting and distributing your stories using social media: WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and more.

TIME & PLACE:The workshop will be divided into two parts: from 9:30-noon, the instructor will cover the five areas above. After a free lunch from noon-12:30 p.m., participants will get to work. We’ll team you up, and hand out cameras. Teams will produce a short video, and we’ll have fun checking what we come up with and how to make it better. The session will be held on the OLLU campus, St. Martin Hall, Room 104.

WHO CAN ATTEND:Communications, Journalism, PR, Arts, Theater, Business and Computer Science majors are encouraged to attend.

COST:Free for OLLU students, staff faculty; $25 for all others
