Erin Ailworth is a staff writer at The Boston Globe, where she currently writes about energy and environmental issues for the business desk. She joined the Globe staff in 2007 as a metro reporter for the Globe’s North bureau.
Prior to the Globe, Ailworth worked for the Orlando Sentinel, first as a cops reporter and later covering several cities in Orange County. In Florida, Ailworth learned to delve into public records, a skill that has led to a variety of stories, including a look at the fallout of Circuit City’s bankruptcy, and recent pieces on possible acceleration problems in Toyota brand cars. Ailworth also spent a year at The Los Angeles Times, where she was a fellow with the Minority Editorial Training Program (METPRO).
She is also a former Kaiser Family Foundation public health reporting intern, and a member of the Society of Enviromental Journalists. Ailworth joined the National Association of Hispanic Journalists in 2001, while a student at Northwestern University in Illinois. In college, she worked for the university’s Office of Hispanic/Latino Student Services, where she helped lay the ground work for a student chapter of NAHJ. Ailworth grew up in Rancho Cordova, Calif.
