NAHJ introduces new approach to midterm coverage and invites all to Go VOTE and Go LIVE on election day

Washington, D.C. – For the first time in 35 years, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) will produce a live virtual event to cover election day with an emphasis on the Latino vote, local and national midterm coverage and a showcase of citizens around the country that are casting their ballots.  The event will be hosted by National President Hugo Balta and will feature a variety of guests and contributors from national and local journalists, national minority journalism organizations, voter outreach organizations, and public figures. The live event will also allow for audience participation to be an inclusive discussion, connecting citizens with the media on election day.

NAHJ is introducing an approach to news coverage with programming that will change the narrative from result-driven coverage, to a focus on celebrating each individual’s voice and perspective on a national platform.  This event will follow voters at the polls, to keep them informed of election day activities and be a supportive voice insisting that each vote matters.  Additionally, increasingly missed opportunities across networks in previous weeks will be fulfilled by including a multi-dimensional narrative around all of the issues that matter to the Latino community and will be given time for in-depth discussion.

The virtual event will be powered by Shindig. Shindig is a versatile platform that allows participation from the entire community.  Viewers can find the livestream on Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube or can tune into the Shindig platform directly to participate in the coverage. Within the platform any attendee of the virtual event has the capability to ask a question and/or be brought on screen to address everyone listening in to the livestream. This will allow citizens to share their voting experience with the community and have their voice accounted for as well as their vote.

Those following the event can participate or listen in to the live coverage here: Shindig.com/login/event/govotegolive on Tuesday, November 6th from 7am  – 11pm EST and tweet using #GoVoteGoLive.
