Gustavo Reveles Acosta was born a first-generation Texan but spent the first 15 years of his life living in Mexico, where his father served as a professor. His family moved back to the United States when Gustavo was in high school. While at Riverside High School in El Paso, Texas, Gustavo learned English and developed his love for writing.
After earning a bachelor's degree in journlism with a minor in Chicano Studies from the University of Texas at El Paso, Gustavo began working at the El Paso Times covering neighborhoods and writing articles for the paper's entertainment guide. He was later promoted to the city staff and given the education beat. Gustavo has been covering students, teachers and school administrations for over a decade and has won several awards for his education coverage.
He has worked at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and currently is in his second stint at the El Paso Times. He has been a member of the National Association of Hispanic Jouranlists since 1999, and is active in the group's GLBT Caucus. He is also the vice president of the El Paso Press Club.
A true lover of border culture, Gustavo lives in El Paso's Lower Valley just yards from the Rio Grande. He shares his home with his two boxers, Ali and Rocky.
