Roberto Santiago is a senior staff writer for The Miami Herald. He joined the paper in 2003, after being recruited from the New York Daily News, where he had served as its Deputy Boroughs and Suburban Editor.

Santiago is the editor of the award-winning anthology, “Boricuas: Influential Puerto Rican Writings” (Ballantine Books).

He began his journalism career in 1985 as a business and technology writer for McGraw-Hill, Inc.

After working briefly for a sports business magazine, Santiago joined the staff of Emerge Magazine as a staff writer/editor. At Emerge Santiago won the 1991 Inter American Press Association Award for his article, “Racial Realities In Cuba’’ which explored racism in modern Cuba.

Santiago later joined The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer where he worked as an entertainment columnist, feature writer, and crime reporter.

In 1995, Santiago served as the host of the public access cable television show, “Boricua Voices.’’

A graduate of Oberlin College, Santiago lives in the Fort Lauderdale area with his beloved wife and little Italian greyhound.
