Claudio Alvarez-Dunn, a native of Argentina, has lived in Puerto Rico since 1980. He has a BA in Business Administration and studied journalism in Madrid at the Spanish Official Institute of Radio & Television (IORTVE).
Claudio started as a reporter and columnist at La Capital, the oldest newspaper in Argentina, in Rosario, his natal town. He came to the United States to cover the exodus of the Marielitos.
Recently he was part of the founding group of Primera Hora, the fastest growing newspaper in Puerto Rico, where he is currently the managing editor. For approximately ten years, he worked at El Nuevo Día in San Juan as a foreign news editor, business copy editor, news desk editor and reporter.
When Macintosh ruled the world, he was executive editor of Interamericana, the official newspaper of the largest private university on the island. He was also a correspondent for Cambio16-América, the weekly Spanish magazine, and for El Diario/La Prensa, the New York-based newspaper.
Claudio also taught journalism history at American University in Puerto Rico and was an anchor & producer for a weekly sport program at WSJU-Canal 18 (Carolina, Puerto Rico). His work also includes two years as the Caribbean sports editor at the San Juan Bureau of EFE, the Spanish news agency.
At NAHJ, he has promoted more seminars and information for Spanish-language journalists.
