This is my second time on the NAHJ board. I served from 2003 to 2005 as the NAHJ Region 5 director. I concluded my service as the logistics director at the NAHJ Convention in Fort Worth. I was involved in many facets of the convention. Also, I organized a regional conference in Dallas in early 2004 and two NAHJ stylebook sessions for Spanish-language journalists in early 2005.

On the board, I helped organize the curriculum for the NAHJ Leadership Institute as well as serving on the several committees. Last year, while off the board, I served on the NAHJ membership committee.

I am a longtime member of NAHJ. I started at the 1988 convention in Dallas as one of the professionals working on The Latino Reporter. I continued with The Latino Reporter in the early ‘90s.

I am also a member of the Dallas-Fort Worth Network of Hispanic Communicators, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary and was the host group for the 2005 NAHJ Convention. I am a news editor/page designer at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. I’ve been with the Star-Telegram for 21 years.

My wife Mary and I are celebrating are 30th anniversary this year. We have three children, Amie, 28; Lisa, 24; and Timm, 22, and four grandchildren. I have been really blessed: my daughter Amie attended Yale and is a lawyer; and my other daughter Lisa attended Cornell and will be going to vet school at Texas A&M.
