Diego Ribadeneira

Diego Ribadeneira is an assistant Metropolitan editor at The New York Times where he primarily assigns daily news stories and feature stories. Before coming to the Times in April 2004, Diego worked for 15 months at The Miami Herald as the deputy Metro editor.

Diego started his journalism career in 1986 as a reporter at The Boston Globe where he spent 16 and 1/2 years. He was a general assignment reporter for several years before becoming an education writer, then the Latin America correspondent and finally the religion reporter. After that he became the deputy City editor, a position he held for three years before leaving for Miami.

He has been a member of NAHJ since 1987 and was twice the editor of The Latino Reporter. Diego, who was born and raised in New York where his parents still live, received a Bachelor’s degree in journalism at Northwestern University. He is married to Carolyn Salazar, who works as a stringer for The New York Post and who is also a member of NAHJ. They live in New Jersey.
