Verónica Villafañe is a "convergence journalist." She has worked as TV anchor and producer for the San Jose Mercury News, reporting live for the NBC-11 nightly newscast and several times a week on Telemundo 48, producing podcasts and anchoring daily webcasts. She began her career as the editor of a weekly Spanish-language paper, but has been a television reporter for the past 14 years. She has worked at the local, national and international levels in both English and Spanish-language media with Univisión, Telemundo, CNN en español, Fox-11 News and Reuters.
A journalism graduate of the Universidad del Salvador in Argentina, she has been an NAHJ member since 1990. She has served on the board as region director since 2001, also representing NAHJ on the RTNDA board. She was elected president of NAHJ in August of 2004, during the UNITY convention.
During her time as region director, Veronica successfully coordinated the first Spanish-language media conference in Los Angeles in 20 years, leading the creation of Alberto Gomez Font's "Buen Uso del español" national tour and coordinating several workshops and events in California, at USC, UCLA and UC Berkeley.
The daughter of a foreign service diplomat, Veronica was born in New Delhi, India. She was raised in several countries, including North Yemen, Somalia, Panama, the United States and Argentina.
