The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) will honor exceptional journalism achievement through the NAHJ Journalism Awards and honor individual journalists through its prestigious ñ Awards.

We invite you to enter the NAHJ Journalism Awards and nominate Latino journalists for our ñ Awards to show your commitment to increasing the awareness of Latino issues and bringing attention to the growing Latino community. These awards will be presented at the 23rd Annual Noche de Triunfos Journalism Awards Gala in Washington, D.C. on September 12, 2008 at the start of Hispanic Heritage Month. Celebrate and reward journalism with NAHJ and bring recognition to your news organization while emphasizing your commitment to diversity.

NAHJ ñ Awards
ñ Awards will be presented in the following categories:
  • Leadership Award
  • Emerging Journalist Award
  • The Frank del Olmo Print Journalist of the Year Award
  • Broadcast Journalist of the Year Award (open to radio and TV nominations)
  • Photojournalist of the Year Award (open to print and TV photographers)

The emerging, print, broadcast and photojournalist awards are open through a nomination process to Hispanic journalists who have made a significant contribution to the Latino community and brought awareness to issues affecting Latinos, or a Hispanic journalist that has achieved excellence through his or her chosen media.

The Leadership Award is open through nomination to any individuals, organizations, or institutions that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to Latino concerns and is actively working toward promoting a better understanding of Latino issues or culture. To be nominated for a ñ Award, a letter of nomination must be submitted stating why the nominee should be recognized. The nomination letter must not exceed three hundred words. Nominations must also be supported by a résumé, references and/or additional materials, such as news clips, videos, or publications.

Members of the current NAHJ board and staff are ineligible. ñ Award recipients will be chosen by a selection committee and approved by the NAHJ Board of Directors.

NAHJ Journalism Awards
Journalism Awards will be presented in the following categories:
  • Print - Commentary, Breaking, Feature, Investigative News, and Design
  • Television - Feature, Documentary, Investigative and Breaking News
  • Radio - Reporting
  • Videography - General News, Feature
  • Photo - News and Story
  • Online - General News
  • Guillermo Martínez-Márquez Award for Latin American Reporting

This contest is open to NAHJ members who can demonstrate journalistic excellence in their selected medium or non-members who bring awareness to and report on the Latino community. The Guillermo Martínez-Márquez Award for Latin American Reporting award offers a cash prize for excellence in reporting from Latin America or outstanding reports about Latin America that create awareness about the region.
