Family Events

Bring the whole family, stay through Sunday (Father’s Day), and make it a vacation! There’s something for everyone in Florida. NAHJ is in the process of securing discounted rates for some of these events. Stay tuned to the NAHJ website for more info.

NAHJ Father’s Day with the Florida Marlins (Sunday, June 18): Join NAHJ families and friends for an afternoon out at the ballgame as the Marlins take on the Toronto Blue Jays.

    Activities Close to Convention Site:

    Catamaran Ocean Sail: Sail aboard the ocean-going Yellow Bird, a 50-foot catamaran. Special events include a jazz cruise, a full-moon cruise, a star-gazing cruise and a beach party cruise.
    Costs: 2 ½ hour cruise (adults, $28.50; children $24.50) and a 3 ½ hour cruise (adults, $35; children, $31). There's also a champagne sunset cruise for $30 per person. (954) 579-8181 www.tropicalsailing.com.

    Glass-Bottom Boat Tour: Explore a shallow coral reef aboard a glass-bottom boat. You can go along for just the ride or go snorkeling. The tours run daily and last for two hours.

    Castaway Island at T-Y Park in Hollywood: This large water playground is suitable for the whole family and features a small play pool designed for toddlers. The Lagoon next to Castaway Island is a man-made lake with a sandy beach. For your $5 fee, you are allowed to spend all day at the Lagoon, and receive one two-hour session at Castaway Island.     Jungle Queen: More than 14 million guests over the years have enjoyed the fun-filled, relaxing evening aboard the Jungle Queen. The cruise up the New River, the "ALL YOU WISH TO EAT" dinner, the variety show and the sing-a-long have made it a "Must" in Fort Lauderdale. (954)-462-5596 www.junglequeen.com.

    Museum of Discovery & Science: Spend a day of discovery exploring over 200 fascinating interactive exhibits at the Museum of Discovery and Science! See sharks and the largest living Atlantic coral reef in captivity, hang out with bats, be charmed by a 12-foot snake, plus pet alligators, turtles and iguanas.     Activities Further Away from Convention Site:

    Billie Swamp Safari: Billie Swamp Safari is a Seminole attraction on the Big Cypress Reservation in the Florida Everglades. The Billie Swamp Safari has a Swamp Critter Show, airboat rides, swamp buggy eco-tours and alligator and snake educational show can be purchased individually or as a day package.

    Biscayne National Underwater Park: Families can choose to take a glass-bottom boat or snorkeling trip. Tours are led by a park ranger and last three hours.

    Rapids Water Park: The Rapids features a full day of fun for the entire family whether you make a splash in the cool blue waves, take a thrilling ride down any of our 17 water slides, or just float around the lazy river.

    Walt Disney World: Orlando is the tourism heart of Florida, with Walt Disney World's four theme parks: the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and MGM Studios. Spend 3 days/ 2 nights in Orlando starting at $200 per person for a double room at the Howard Johnson Maingate or Clarion Hotel Maingate. $249 per person will get you a double room at the Courtyard Marriott at Lake Buena Vista or the Sheraton Safari Hotel at Lake Buena Vista. Prices include round trip bus transportation from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando, as well as Disney tickets. Minimum of 15 people required for the excursion.
