Convention Highlights
NAHJ MEDIA & CAREER EXPO
The Media & Career Expo serves as the premier networking hub for the convention’s 2,000 attendees where more than 100 media and non-media organizations, nonprofit groups, and government agencies interact with and recruit many of the nation’s most influential Hispanic journalists.
Expo Hours:
Thursday, June 14 and Friday, June 15 from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Expo Features:
* The Tech Lounge – Attendees take a break from sessions and from working the expo hall to relax and network in a cozy environment.
* On The Couch sessions – Adjacent to the Lounge area, huddle around an expert conducting sessions ranging from personal finance issues to life coaching to how to negotiate a contract. *Click here for a description of these sessions
* Cyber Valley – Free internet access will be available at computer stations in this area. Attendees can check email and surf the web.
* Career Resource Center – Career advice and broadcast/print critiques in one-on-one sessions from seasoned journalists will enable attendees to polish their credentials.

* Authors’ Cafe– Journalists are given the unique opportunity to interact with Latino authors and review Hispanic literature. Browse and buy Latino literature, resource publications or NAHJ merchandise.
* NAHJ Photo Exhibit – This display will feature award-winning photographs that will be recognized during NAHJ’s Journalism Awards.
* Refreshment Bay -- Convention attendees receive complimentary beverages and other treats during visits to the expo hall.

Town Hall Meeting
Tuesday, June 12
Mexican Heritage Plaza, San Jose
This forum, held for San Jose’s Latino community, will feature a panel of political/social leaders and a mix of news industry experts, media and community advocates to discuss The Health Care Crisis: Legislation, Politics and the Impact on the Latino Community. This is the only convention event open to the public.
Opening Plenary
Wednesday, June 13
California Theater, San Jose
This first session features an in-depth interview or a panel of speakers discussing topics of national and/or international importance. Prominent political figures interviewed in recent years include former Mexican President Vicente Fox, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and Ricardo Alarcón, president of Cuba’s national assembly.
Opening Reception
Wednesday, June 13
The convention officially kicks off with about 1,000 attendees at the San Jose Museum of Art & Fairmont Plaza.
Media & Career Expo Box Luncheon
Thursday, June 14
This high-energy event brings hundreds of participants to the Media & Career Expo during the convention’s peak, elevating the networking buzz among reporters, editors, producers and executives.
Movie Screening
Thursday, June 14
Walk the red carpet for this World Premier! Inspired by actual events, "The Hungry Woman" examines America’s most recent arrivals residing in a migrant camp in the foothills of Southern California. A murder mystery, the chief protagonist and narrative voice, Evelia Dominguez, secures temporary employment as a housemaid for the Muehlhaus family. She becomes witness to their execution by mysterious unknowns. At the same time, her brother, Alejandro, commandeers the film’s spirit as he endures street injustice. The film shares experiences of love, success, sorrow and camp survival in a new world. The Hungry Woman is not what you think and this movie is anything but conventional. Join us for some cocktails before the film and an after party with San Francisco’s hottest Hispanic band, Avance.
