NETWORK NEWS:
Univisión station WXTV in New York City scored higher ratings during July sweeps than the CBS English station, WCBS, in the 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts.
María López-Alvarez, Univisión's vice president and director of news entertainment programs, and Sylvia Rosabal-Ley, Univisión vice president and director of news coverage, have been jointly named to oversee the network's news division.
Michael Rodríguez has been named vice president and general manager of Telemundo station WSCV-TV in Miami.
NEWSPAPER GROUP:
Four Spanish-language weeklies in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area have teamed up to form the newspaper group DFW Grupo Impacto, and will share in the marketing and advertising sales that allow a company to advertise in all four papers.
The weeklies are El Hispano News, Novedades News, El Heraldo News and La Semana. Sergio Puerto, publisher of Novedades, is the president of the group.
NEW DIVERSITY CHIEF:
Knight Ridder's vice president of news Larry Olmstead has been named the company's vice president of staff development and diversity, replacing Jacqui Love Marshall, who steps down due to health reasons.
HISPANIC HOOPLA:
Telemundo and the National Basketball Association reached a deal to televise 15 regular-season NBA games and as many as 10 WNBA games on the Spanish-language network for each of the next three years.
INCOMING:
Elaine Rivera, formerly with New York Newsday and Time magazine, joins the staff of The Washington Post.
