SHOW DEBUTS:
Telemundo launched Sept. 15 Enfoque, a monthly, half-hour public affairs program that focuses on issues affecting U.S. Hispanics. The program, hosted by Jose Diaz-Balart, brother of U.S. Rep. Lincoln D¡az-Balart (R-Fla.), airs out of Washington, D.C.
Enfoque aims to present the "human side" of Hispanic leaders.
CENTER DIRECTOR:
Jay Harris, former publisher of The San Jose Mercury News, is named director of the Center for the Study of Journalism and Democracy at the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication.
The newly created center seeks to create a greater understanding of journalism as a public service.
NAHP DIRECTOR:
The National Association of Hispanic Publications selects Ivonne Cunarro its news executive director. She departs as communications director for the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility. Before that, she served as deputy director of communications for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and director of communications for U.S. Rep. Jos&Mac226; Serrano (D-N.Y.).
NAHJ MANAGER:
Kevin Olivas began Sept. 16 as educational programs manager for the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. Olivas was the career development manager for the California Chicano News Media Association.
METPRO DIRECTOR:
Efrain Hernandez, an editor with the Los Angeles Times, is named director of the Tribune Company's Minority Editorial Training Program (METPRO), which prepares journalists with limited experience for full-time reporting positions at one of the Tribune Company's 12 dailies, including the Times and Chicago Tribune.
