FELLOWSHIP:

The Hispanic Link Journalism Foundation is offering a year-long fellowship for an aspiring print journalist to be trained at Hispanic Link News Service in Washington, D.C., beginning early summer. The deadline to apply is March 19. The selected fellow will receive a stipend of $20,800 and cover issues affecting the U.S. Hispanic community. Applicants are judged in part on their potential to become a leader in the journalism field. There are no specific educational or experience requirements. LIBRARY:

The Freedom Forum has partnered with the Inter American Press Association to open a library in Miami to aid Latin American journalists.The library is located at the IAPA headquarters at Jules Dubois Building, 1801 S.W. 3rd Ave. It contains an extensive collection of textbooks, training materials, periodicals and resources for historical research. The library also provides Internet services, on-line databases and is staffed by a full-time librarian.

SCHOLARSHIP BANQUET:

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists will hold its 12th annual Rubén Salazar Scholarship Banquet in New York City Feb. 22 at the Plaza Hotel. The NAHJ has raised close to $500,000 since the inception of the scholarship in 1986. For scholarship information, call the NAHJ at (202) 662-7145.

CASTRO'S COMMENTS:

Cuban leader Fidel Castro said Jan. 18 that some foreign media companies and individual journalists may be expelled from the island
because of their lack of objectivity. This past month, the Sun-Sentinel in
Fort Lauderdale and the Dallas Morning News opened bureaus in Cuba.
