| KMEX STRIKE:
Several California Latino politicians, including newly elected Congresswoman Hilda Solís and Assemblyman Gil Cedillo, are refusing to grant interviews to Univisión in a show of support for 120 striking workers at Univisión station KMEX in Los Angeles. Dan Spelling, a spokesperson for KMEX, said the station made a "best and final offer that went above and beyond other stations in the same market in terms of re-training and job security relative to shared jurisdiction over new technologies."
He added, "going from analog to digital will create new tasks and functions and the station is seeking shared jurisdiction over the technologies that access those tasks."
In support of the strikers, the AFL-CIO has called on all unions not to conduct business with the nation's largest Spanish-language network. The KMEX workers, members of the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians - Communications Workers of America, went on strike Oct. 23 over fair wages and job security. NABET-CWA claims KMEX management is preventing union members from obtaining jobs being created by new technology. NABET-CWA filed unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board following a breakdown in talks Nov.3.
