NAHJ is governed by a 16-member board of directors that consists of executive officers and regional directors who represent geographic areas of the United States and the Caribbean. The national office is located in the National Press Building in Washington, D.C.
NAHJ has approximately 1,500 members, including working journalists, journalism students, other media-related professionals and academic scholars.
The goals of the association are:
- To further employment and career development for Hispanics working in the news media.
- To organize and provide mutual support for Hispanic journalists in English, Spanish and bilingual media.
- To encourage the study and practice of journalism and mass communication by Hispanics.
- To promote fair treatment of Hispanics by the news media.
- To foster greater understanding of the culture, interests and concerns of Hispanic journalists.
NAHJ is constantly adding to its list of exciting programs. They include:
