NAHJ Objects to Decision by U.S. District Court in Puerto Rico to uphold charges against 10 journalists.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Association of Hispanic Journalists joined the Asociacion de Periodistas de Puerto Rico in expressing its disagreement with a recent decision of the U.S. District Court of Puerto Rico. On Nov. 30, the court denied a request by 10 journalists to dismiss trespassing charges against them for entering a naval base on the island of Vieques last June while covering a protest against the U.S. Navy.

Report finds Elian González saga primary reason why the number of stories about Latinos increased
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The custody battle over Elián González and the media attention focused on U.S. Energy Secretary Bill Richardson and his oversight of the Los Alamos spy scandal were two of the primary reasons why the number of Latino-related stories that aired on the newscasts of the nation’s three largest networks (ABC, CBS and NBC) increased in 1999, according to the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ fifth annual "Network Brownout" report.
NAHJ Passes Resolution Supporting Domestic Partner Benefits

WASHINGTON, D.C.: The board of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists passed a resolution during the association’s fall board meeting Sept. 29 - Oct. 1 in Phoenix, Ariz., calling for news organizations to provide domestic partner benefits to their employees.
NAHJ Expresses its Approval of RTNDA’s Decision to Change Annual Survey

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Cecilia Alvear, producer for NBC News, was elected president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists June 23, defeating James Garcia, editor-in-chief of Politico Magazine, during the association's 18th annual convention in Houston. The NAHJ president serves a two-year term.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Nancy Baca, president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, called the results of the 2000 American Society of Newspaper Editors' annual newsroom employment survey "disturbing" and expressed concern whether the association will meet its new benchmarking goals set for measuring progress in the hiring and promoting of people of color.
