NAHJ Mourns the Loss of Ray Gomez

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) mourns the loss of longtime member, Ray Gomez, who passed away on Monday, November 16, 2009 after being hospitalized with pneumonia.

Gomez, news director at KGNS-TV in Laredo, Texas, is the husband of Diana Fuentes, editor of the Laredo Morning Times.

“I can’t imagine a couple more in sync with each other than Ray and Dee Dee,” said NAHJ President Ricardo Pimentel. “Ray was a great guy, a fine journalist and dedicated to NAHJ’s mission. He will be missed.”

Gomez was known for his sharp wit and good humor. Both he and his wife are Lifetime Members of NAHJ and could be seen frequently at NAHJ conventions.

In additon to his wife, Gomez is survived by his mother, step-father and sister.

Visitation will be at Joe Jackson North, 1410 Jacaman Road, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009. The memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, also at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in Del Rio, Texas, later that day.
