| Seeking a managing editor, responsible, in cooperation
with the editor, for day-to-day operations of the newsroom.
The managing editor must be able to work with and supervise
creative people, be comfortable with technology, foster
innovation and be a strong, enthusiastic leader who
can direct the staff to produce, within accepted ethical
and legal guidelines, a newspaper worthy of our community.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree
and at least 10 years' daily newspaper experience or
equivalent, with at least 5 years in editing or supervisory
positions. Experience in page design and ability to
manage newsroom technology are strongly desirable. In
collaboration with the editor, the managing editor will
take responsibility for content and quality of our print
and on-line products. Duties will include recruiting
selecting and developing staff, direct supervision of
newsroom department heads including the city editor,
presentation editor, business editor, sports editor
and features editor, and collaborating in developing
and managing the editorial budget. We offer competitive

| We are seeking a detail-oriented professional with
strong editing and design skills to fill our opening
for a full-time page designer. Primary responsibilities
are to design high quality, creative pages for news
and features sections. Candidate must be able to quickly
and effectively build pages using pagination software.
Must possess excellent teamwork, interpersonal and customer
skills as well as the ability to work well under pressure
and meet critical deadlines. Assures that deadlines
and page flow requirements are met, even under high-pressure
situations. Able to work cooperatively with editors,
reporters and photographers. Bachelor's degree or equivalent
work experience. Requires experience with design systems,
graphics software, Windows, typography and design trends.
Photoshop, Quark Xpress, Adobe Illustrator skills desired.
Experience with scanners and imagesetting equipment
desired. Strong grammar, spelling and AP style desired.
Work schedule includes evening and weekend hours. We
