3 Parity Project Newspapers Accepted Into ASNE High School Program

The American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE) has accepted the Daily Camera of Boulder, Colo., the Santa Maria Times of Santa Maria, Calif. and The Tampa Tribune of Tampa, Fla. into its 2005-2006 academic year High School Journalism program.

All three of those papers are partners in the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ (NAHJ) Parity Project.

This program encourages daily English-language newspapers to pair up with high schools to help publish campus newspapers while also encouraging those students to pursue careers in the journalism field.

The three Parity Project partner papers have targeted high schools that have high Latino enrollments. This can serve as the basis for helping these papers to develop a “pipeline” of local Latino journalism talented.
