| Primary Purpose of the Job: Under direct supervision and working independently, update and create editorial content on naplesnews.com and its related web sites.
Job Description:
Create/develop and make updates/changes to stories, story lists, polls, recurring inlines, photos, media galleries and other objects on naplesnews.com and all of our related Internet sites. Use good news judgment to maintain and organize the content of our Internet sites.• Create/edit unique content for naplesnews.com. Help create and maintain user interfaces that make it easy for users to navigate the site and find the information they need. Help create hyperlinks to related online items to increase page views.• Help to convert print and photographic materials for online use. Ensure that rules of grammar, spelling and style are consistent with newspaper standards. Utilize online content management systems, photo archives, PhotoShop and AP Exchange to locate/edit stories and photos for online posts.
This position requires working the evening shift from late afternoon to past midnight, including at least one weekend night.
Requirements:
Good verbal, written and organizational skills are necessary. Firm knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation and Associated Press style is essential. A working knowledge of multiple media content management software and techniques is required. Ability to manage audio, video, photographic and written content is essential. Firm reporting and writing skills are essential. One to three years of journalism experience and related college degree preferred. Must be able to demonstrate a general knowledge of the Internet, computers, interactivity and editing skills. Ability to work in fast-paced environment under tight deadlines required. Video production skills a plus, but not a necessity.

| Templaters should have a solid Internet/computing background, knowledge of web standards and protocols, and a love of keeping up-to-date with emergent technologies. Interested applicants should possess the passion to continually learn about the latest in web building, usability, accessibility and presentation. Respond quickly to multiple project demands, leading projects from initiation to completion. Individual will be focused on building and maintaining web sites, including the company’s flagship and secondary sites, as well as external/client sites.
Requirements: strong, demonstrable skills in HTML, XHTML and CSS. Familiarity with one or more JavaScript libraries helpful. Optional, but also useful: knowledge of general multimedia editing using Photoshop, iMovie/Final Cut, Audacity/Audition/SoundEdit. Django templating experience is a big plus.

| One of the most respected and award-winning newspaper web teams in the U.S. is located in Naples, Florida and is looking for an experienced web developer with strong Python programming skills.
The multimedia division of the Naples Daily News has an immediate opening for a full-time web developer to develop cross-platform Internet-based applications for our multiple websites. This position involves Python and PostgreSQL development in a Linux/Apache environment, with heavy use of the Django web development framework.
We strive for innovation and nimble development for sites that embrace relational databases in ways they’ve rarely been used on the local level coupled with broadband-centric multimedia content that all works together in a platform-independent manner. In other words, we strive to build the kinds of news websites and related offshoots that you wish were in your hometown.
EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Mathematics or equivalent work experience.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two years experience in full lifecycle software development. Experience with PostgreSQL database preferred. Familiarity with Django a plus. Knowledge of more than one of the following also helpful: HTML, Javascript, CSS, Linux, SQL, SVN, XML, Flash.
SKILLS & ABILITIES: Successful applicants will rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals within a team environment; utilize creativity and excellent problem solving skills while managing multiple tasks. Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills. A deep understanding of web standards, protocols, and application design is essential.
SYSTEMS: Familiarity with UNIX/Linux servers and PC’s running Windows, Mac OS X and/or Linux operating systems is a plus.
