REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent. Some formal technical school training with certificate of graduation.

EXPERIENCE: One year editing experience in a television station.

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Must be able to focus on a specific task despite distractions. Ability to work well with producers, reporters, and other staff in high-pressure situations. Must be available for shift changes, nights and/or weekends and possible overtime hours, as well as on call.

  • Gather, write and present weather and news information in newscasts as assigned.
  • Use weather related computers, graphics, and radar for weather presentations.
  • Perform weather presentations from live locations.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: College degree in Communications, Journalism or related field; prefer degree in Meteorology.

EXPERIENCE: – Must have 5 years of television weather anchoring experience; prefer 3-5 years in top 50 market. Must have knowledge of Doppler radar. AMS seal preferred.

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to explain complicated weather and news in an interesting fashion. Must have good interview skills and knowledge of show production. Able to work nights, weekends, and be adaptable as job requires. Must demonstrate strong news judgment and ability to work under pressure. A valid Florida Driver’s License and proof of insurance are required as well as proof of company required insurance limits.

  • Manage assignment desk by listening to police and fire scanners for emergency calls.
  • Telephone all local police, fire, and other listed agencies to make beat checks on what is going on each day and night.
  • Prepare a list of scheduled events for the next day by going through the daily assignment file of press releases.
  • Provide correct notes on local events and details of beat checks to news producers.
  • Monitor other local newscasts to keep track of what the competition is covering.
  • Help in preparing daily rundown of all pertinent events for the next shift.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: Bachelors degree in journalism or related field.
