NAHJ announces a call for entries for its newly revised Journalism Awards and its first-ever Ñ Awards.

Entries must be postmarked by May 15, 2004.

Award winners will be recognized for their outstanding achievements in journalism and in covering the Hispanic community at the Noche de Triunfos Awards Gala during Hispanic Heritage Month. The black-tie affair will be held on September 16, 2004 at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Washington D.C.

NAHJ Journalism Awards

Journalism Awards will be presented in the following categories:
  • Print - Commentary, Breaking, Feature, Investigative News, and Design
  • Television - Documentary, Investigative and Breaking News
  • Radio - Reporting
  • Photo - News, Story
  • Multimedia

This contest is open to NAHJ members who can demonstrate journalistic excellence in their selected medium or non-members who bring awareness to and report on the Latino community.

NAHJ Ñ Awards

Ñ Awards will be presented in the following categories:
  • Leadership Award
  • Emerging Journalist Award
  • The Frank del Olmo Print Journalist of the Year Award
  • Broadcast Journalist of the Year Award
  • Photographer of the Year Award

The emerging, print, broadcast and photographer awards are open through a nomination process to Hispanic journalists who have made a significant contribution to the Latino community and brought awareness to issues affecting Latinos, or a Hispanic journalist that has achieved excellence through their chosen media.

The Leadership Award is open through nomination to any individuals, organizations, or institutions that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to Latino concerns and is actively working toward promoting a better understanding of Latino issues or culture.

To be nominated for a Ñ award, a letter of nomination must be submitted stating why the nominee should be recognized. The nomination letter must not exceed three hundred words. Nominations must also be supported by a résumé, references and/or additional materials, such as news clips, videos, or publications.

Members of the current NAHJ board and staff are ineligible. Ñ Award recipients will be selected by a special nominating committee and must be approved by the NAHJ Board of Directors.
