The winner of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists raffle for a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS sports utility vehicle is Mr. Andrew Kanyote of Baltimore, Maryland.
Mr. Kanyote works at The Chimes School for developmentally disabled children in Baltimore. He held the winning ticket number: 1878.
The winning ticket was drawn during NAHJ's Nochel de Triunfos Awards Gala on June 28, 2003 at the New York Marriott Marquis in New York City. General Motors donated the vehicle to NAHJ for this raffle.
NAHJ would like to thank everyone who purchased a ticket, as well as those who helped to sell raffle tickets. In all more than 1,157 raffle tickets were sold, bringing in a total of $28,925. That money goes into the NAHJ Scholarship Fund and Educational Programs. NAHJ will use this money to provide scholarships for deserving Latino high school and college students who are pursuing careers in the journalism field.
Proceeds also go toward the internship programs that NAHJ holds during its annual convention which allow high school and college students to work with professional journalists in developing their skills. These internship programs are a part of NAHJ's Educational Programs. To check out the 2003 NAHJ Convention Internship programs, please visit: http://www.latinoreporterdigital.org.
Since 1986, NAHJ has awarded more than $600,000 in scholarships to more than 400 students. In addition, more than 400 students have taken part in NAHJ's Convention Internship programs since they were instituted in 1988.
NAHJ is constantly looking for more funding to expand these programs. If you are interested in making a tax-deductible donation to NAHJ's Scholarship Fund and Educational Programs, those contributions are gratefully accepted throughout the year. Please send contributions to:
