Pablo Colón
Mr. Pablo Colon
Features Design Director
The Star-Ledger
Pablo Colón began his newspaper career as a high school junior when he was hired by The Home News in New Brunswick, N.J., part-time as a graphic artist in 1983. He joined the newspaper full-time in 1984 while he was a student at Rutgers University, majoring in marketing and graphic design. In 1996, he was recruited by the Newark (N.J.) Star-Ledger and was named features design director shortly thereafter. Pablo has won numerous prestigious awards from the Society Of Newspaper Design, an annual international design competition that draws entries from 50 countries. His work has also been recognized with a variety of national honors for newspaper design.
A firm believer in simplicity, Pablo chose a clean design for the NAHJ Spanish-language stylebook. He flavored the otherwise minimal design with tropical colors - sunny mango and passionate red - reminiscent of his vibrant Puerto Rican culture and heritage.
