These programs feature a team of students and media professionals working in a newsroom setting. It provides students a great opportunity to get hands-on training in daily journalism. Sponsors of these programs also receive signage in their respective newsroom and recognition and/or ads in their respective publications when appropriate.

The Latino Reporter
Students get an opportunity to write, edit, layout and produce a 12-page newspaper covering the convention and the community. Students work as reporters, photographers, copy editors and graphic artists under the supervision of professional journalists to publish a daily newspaper in both English and Spanish.
Participants: 20 students, 15 professional staff
Newspaper: Three editions of 2,000 copies each
Sponsorship: $50,000 ($25,000 for co-sponsorship)

El Noticiero
Broadcast journalism students produce a half-hour television newscast that focuses both on the convention and community issues. The project trains potential reporters, videographers, producers and editors on techniques involved in producing a television news broadcast in both English and Spanish.
Participants: 12 students, 10 professional staff
Sponsorship: $30,000 ($15,000 for co-sponsorship)

Radio Ondas
Students conceive, develop, report and produce stories for traditional radio and the Web. They serve as on-air reporters, anchors, producers and editors. They learn to produce all of their work using the latest digital editing and producing software. The final product is a high-quality radio program in both English and Spanish. Portions of the newscast will air on NPR and will be available on the NAHJ Web site.

Latino Reporter Digital (online edition)
This program offers students the chance to build a Web site from the ground up while covering the daily activities of the convention. The students work with new media professionals in each phase of the comprehensive online site. This includes newsgathering, site design and maintenance.

Student Campus
This intensive week-long program trains students about coverage issues, news writing and newsroom ethics. Senior journalists and academic experts develop a curriculum to expose students to the latest industry trends and technology. Candidates for the campus are selected from a national pool of applicants solicited from hundreds of colleges and universities. The two primary goals for this program are: to provide a unique, multi-ethnic, multicultural experience for the students, and to provide proper preparation for gaining the greatest benefit from the convention activities.
Participants: 25 students, 10 professional staff
Sponsorship: $50,000 ($25,000 for co-sponsorship)

Creating Future Journalists Program
At the NAHJ convention, the Hispanic Link Journalism Foundation offers about 100 high school journalists a day of workshops as an introduction to journalism. Students, primarily from the Fort Worth and Dallas areas, participate in a series of sessions designed to inspire them to pursue journalism careers. Professional journalists will serve as mentors throughout the day.
