Convention Programming

This year’s convention will capitalize on its locale by highlighting the diversity of South Florida’s Hispanic community and its unique geographical position to South America and the Caribbean.

We'll be tackling issues such as: the country’s contentious immigration reform efforts, the emotional and physical toll of covering natural disasters, the changing ways people get their news and what that means for journalists, and the bullets, kidnapping and jail cells that await many of our colleagues in Latin America who fight every day for a free press.

In addition, we’ll also be looking at the growth in Spanish-language media, the boom in Hispanic entrepreneurship, covering Cuba after Fidel, disparities in health and access to health care in the Latino community, and the influence of Latinos and Spanish television on mainstream U.S. culture.
