    Workshops & Panels

The 2009 NAHJ convention will reflect time and place. The first few months of a new administration in Washington are sure to raise much talk about the country’s growing Latino population, changes in U.S. domestic and foreign policy, and a new view from the White House on Latin America and the Caribbean. Free press issues in Latin America, the implications of the far-reaching changes in the U.S. news media industry, and other hot button topics will also flow through the lively discussions. And for our members to remain competitive, lots of new training for journalists will take center stage.

Newsmaker Luncheon Location: Puerto Rico Convention Center
    Date: Thursday, June 25, 2009
Prominent panelists gather over lunch to discuss a hot topic related to diversity in the news media and/or other political or social issues. The 2006 luncheon brought together New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, former Mexican Foreign Minister Jorge Castañeda and Lou Dobbs of CNN’s Lou Dobbs Tonight to discuss immigration. A panel of journalists and activists converged in 2007 to document the link between anti-immigrant hate speech in the media and hate crimes in the country, and how to confront it in these challenging times.
