NAHJ hosts this signature event in Washington, D.C. during Hispanic Heritage Month. The gala benefits the Campaign for Parity, a multi-year initiative to strengthen education and professional development opportunities for Latino journalists and students, increase advocacy efforts around coverage of Latinos and partner with media companies across the U.S. to rapidly achieve newsroom parity.
The awards gala recognizes and honors distinguished journalists who through their work characterize the goal of NAHJ to increase the influence of Latinos in U.S. newsrooms. NAHJ's ñ Awards are presented during the gala. The distinguished awards honor Hispanic journalists and a member of the general public for leadership in bringing greater awareness to issues affecting the Latino community, as well as for their journalistic achievements. The NAHJ Journalism Awards honor journalists for excellence in their specialized fields of work or for their outstanding coverage of the Latino community.
