NAHJ Discouraged by Lack of Network Coverage
NAHJ released its 9th Annual Network Brownout Report and found that out of 16,000 stories that aired on the network evening newscasts in 2003, only 131 stories, or 0.82 percent, were exclusively about Latinos.

NAHJ Launches Parity Project at Boulder's Daily Camera
The Daily Camera, an E.W. Scripps-owned newspaper in Boulder, Colo., became NAHJ's newest partner in the Parity Project. A town hall meeting with the paper's editors and the community kicked off the launch on December 7.

NAHJ Panel Examines Exit Polls and the Hispanic Vote
An NAHJ co-sponsored panel on Dec. 2 discussed the discrepancy between the networks' exit polls and other exit surveys on the Hispanic vote for George W. Bush. NBC's elections manager provided updated numbers showing that Bush received 40 percent of Latino votes rather than 44 percent.

NAHJ mourns the death of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) founder and journalism pioneer Roy Aarons, who passed away on November 28.

NAHJ Calls Taricani Conviction An Attack Against Journalists' First Amendment Rights
NAHJ condemns last Thursday's criminal contempt conviction of WJAR-TV News reporter Jim Taricani and urges the court to overturn all charges. NAHJ also joins the RTNDA and other journalism organizations in calling on Congress to enact a federal shield law to protect journalists.
